Loneliness isn't a character flaw—it's often a protective pattern

Your nervous system may have learned that connection is dangerous. Past experiences of rejection, abandonment, or betrayal taught it to keep others at a distance. Somatic work helps your body learn that connection can be safe again.

Understanding

What is Loneliness?

Loneliness is often less about being alone and more about your nervous system's relationship to connection. If early experiences taught you that reaching out leads to rejection, abandonment, or pain, your body may have learned to avoid connection as a form of self-protection.

This shows up as an invisible barrier between you and others. You might be in a crowded room or even in a relationship and still feel profoundly alone. The walls that once protected you now keep everyone out.

Traditional advice to 'just put yourself out there' often fails because it doesn't address the body's protective responses. Your nervous system needs to learn—not just intellectually but viscerally—that connection can be safe.

In somatic work, we gently help your nervous system update its threat assessment around connection. Through careful, titrated experiences of safe relating, your body can learn that belonging is possible without the danger it once experienced.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about somatic work and how I can help.

I've been lonely for years. Can that really change?

Yes. The protective patterns that create loneliness developed for good reasons, but they can shift. Your nervous system remains capable of learning new patterns of connection at any age.

Is this about making friends or dating?

It's deeper than that. We work with your nervous system's capacity for connection. As this expands, forming friendships and relationships becomes more natural—but we're addressing the root, not the symptom.

I'm introverted—is that the same as lonely?

No. Introversion is a preference for quieter, less stimulating environments. Loneliness is feeling disconnected even when you want connection. You can be introverted and deeply connected, or extroverted and profoundly lonely.

What are your fees?

My fee is $175 per 60-minute session. Longer sessions are available and prorated accordingly. I reserve a limited number of sliding scale slots for individuals who need nervous system healing but face financial barriers. If cost is a concern, please reach out to discuss current availability. I don't accept insurance.
