Anxiety isn't just in your head—it's in your body

Your nervous system has learned to stay on high alert, constantly scanning for danger. Somatic work helps you retrain this protective mechanism, teaching your body that it's safe to relax and allowing your natural calm to emerge.

Understanding

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is your body's ancient alarm system—designed to protect you from danger. When this system detects a threat, it floods your body with energy to help you fight, flee, or freeze. This was essential for our ancestors facing predators.

The challenge is that modern life rarely requires us to physically fight or run. Instead, we face emails, deadlines, social situations, and uncertainty. Our alarm system fires, but there's nowhere for that energy to go.

Over time, if this activation happens repeatedly without resolution, your nervous system can get stuck in 'on' mode. It becomes hypersensitive, triggering anxiety responses to situations that aren't actually dangerous.

In somatic work, we help your nervous system complete its natural cycle—allowing the stored survival energy to discharge and teaching your body to recognize when you're truly safe. This is how we move from chronic anxiety to genuine calm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about somatic work and how I can help.

How is somatic therapy different from traditional approaches to anxiety?

Most approaches focus on managing thoughts or behaviors. Somatic therapy works directly with your nervous system—the source of anxiety responses. By helping your body discharge stored survival energy, we create lasting change rather than just coping strategies.

Will I have to face my fears or do exposure therapy?

No. Somatic therapy is gentle and works within your window of tolerance. We don't flood you with fear. Instead, we help your nervous system gradually expand its capacity while always maintaining a sense of safety.

How quickly will I notice results?

Many clients experience some relief in the very first session—often a taste of calm they haven't felt in years. Lasting changes typically develop over 8-12 sessions as your nervous system rewires.

What are your fees?

My fee is $175 per 60-minute session. Longer sessions are available and prorated accordingly. I reserve a limited number of sliding scale slots for individuals who need nervous system healing but face financial barriers. If cost is a concern, please reach out to discuss current availability. I don't accept insurance.
