Low self-esteem isn't a thinking problem—it's a nervous system pattern

Your sense of worth was shaped by early experiences and is held in your body. Somatic work helps you release the shame, fear, and contraction that underlie low self-esteem, allowing your natural confidence to emerge.

Understanding

What is Self-Esteem?

Self-esteem isn't about thinking positive thoughts or repeating affirmations. It's a felt sense in your body—a deep knowing that you have a right to exist, to take up space, to have needs and desires.

When early experiences taught your nervous system that you weren't safe being fully yourself—whether through criticism, neglect, comparison, or conditional love—your body learned to contract. That contraction is the physical shape of low self-esteem.

This is why positive thinking often doesn't work. You can't think your way out of a body pattern. The shrinking, the apologizing, the people-pleasing—these are survival strategies wired into your nervous system.

In somatic work, we help your body unlearn these protective patterns. As your nervous system experiences that it's safe to be seen, to take up space, to be imperfect—genuine self-worth naturally arises from within.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about somatic work and how I can help.

I've tried affirmations and they don't work. How is this different?

Affirmations are cognitive—they work with thoughts. Somatic work addresses the body patterns underlying low self-esteem. When your nervous system shifts, your thoughts naturally follow.

My self-esteem issues come from my childhood. Can they really change?

Yes. While early experiences shape us profoundly, the nervous system remains plastic throughout life. The patterns can be rewired at any age.

How long does it take to build self-esteem?

You'll likely feel shifts within the first few sessions. Deeper, lasting change typically develops over 8-12 sessions as new patterns become embodied.

What are your fees?

My fee is $175 per 60-minute session. Longer sessions are available and prorated accordingly. I reserve a limited number of sliding scale slots for individuals who need nervous system healing but face financial barriers. If cost is a concern, please reach out to discuss current availability. I don't accept insurance.
