Childhood trauma isn't stored in your memory—it's stored in your body

Somatic Experiencing® works gently with these stored experiences, allowing your nervous system to complete interrupted survival responses and find resolution—without requiring you to relive painful memories.

Understanding

What is Childhood Trauma?

Childhood trauma isn't about what happened to you—it's about what happened inside you. When overwhelming experiences occur before your nervous system is developed enough to process them, the survival energy gets stored in your body.

This could be obvious trauma like abuse or neglect, or subtler experiences: a parent who was emotionally unavailable, chronic stress in the household, medical procedures, or simply not getting the attunement you needed.

Your young nervous system adapted to survive. These adaptations—hypervigilance, people-pleasing, emotional numbness, difficulty trusting—made sense then. But they may be limiting your life now.

In somatic work, we don't need to analyze your childhood endlessly. Instead, we work directly with how your body still holds those early experiences, allowing your nervous system to finally complete what it couldn't complete back then.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about somatic work and how I can help.

Do I have to talk about what happened to me?

No. Somatic work can heal trauma without requiring you to share or relive the details of your experiences. We work with the body's responses rather than the stories.

I'm not sure if what I experienced counts as trauma. Can you still help?

Absolutely. Trauma isn't defined by the event but by how your nervous system responded. If you're still affected by past experiences, that's what matters—not whether others would label it 'trauma.'

How long does healing take?

Healing is individual. Some clients experience significant shifts in 8-12 sessions; others choose ongoing work over months or years. We proceed at your pace.

What are your fees?

My fee is $175 per 60-minute session. Longer sessions are available and prorated accordingly. I reserve a limited number of sliding scale slots for individuals who need nervous system healing but face financial barriers. If cost is a concern, please reach out to discuss current availability. I don't accept insurance.
